How can we recycle our event mats with our supplier Sommer?
What are the different characteristics of event mats? Can they all be recycled? If so, how can they be recycled? As an expert in the sale of floor mats and mats for professionals, NeoSol answers these questions and explains how Sommer gives mats a second life.
Professional mating for events: choosing the right materials
A professional mat is the ideal floor covering for events. Designed for heavy traffic, you'll have a choice of different types of event mat that differ in their fibers and the materials they're made of.
As with our dirt-repellententrance mats or our aluminum mats, passing over a mat should be a satisfying experience for every passer-by. That's why it's so important to choose the right mat.
Depending on your requirements, you can choose between 2 types of fiber:
1. Natural fiber (cotton, coir): these fibers are very pleasant to the touch and give a sensation of lightness when walked on. Its soft, natural appearance makes this floor covering an excellent thermal insulator.
2. Synthetic fiber (polyamide, polypropylene): synthetic fibers are soft, stable and highly resistant to moisture. Ideal for small areas.
The backing of a mat is also made of different materials that contribute to its stability and solidity. This part can be made of latex foam, needlepunched textile (the most common type, allowing you to lay your mat easily on self-gripping strips ) or woven material .
The benefits of event mats
As with the other floor coverings we offer, event mats also have a number of advantages.

Recycling your mat with our supplier Sommer
After your event, you can recycle your mat with Sommer, one of our suppliers. Designing eco-friendly floor coverings with recycled and 100% natural materials is part of their DNA. Eco-designed floor coverings certified ISO 9001 since 2001. A guarantee of quality and reliability.
For many years, Sommer has been recovering used mats and transforming them into recyclable granulated plastic. This process gives the product a second life and makes it easier for professionals to dispose of their mats.
How does Sommer recycle mat?
Before explaining how Sommer recycles mats, it's important to understand the conditions that must be met to be eligible for this service.
Not all mats can be recycled. Our supplier only accepts Expostyle, Expoline, Exposhow and Expografik needle-punched mats. They must contain polypropylene fibers and no other materials. The backing must be impregnated with resin only, and contain no underlay.
Finally, your mat must be completely clean (no food scraps, drink stains, garbage or dirt) and dry. When laying mat, be careful not to mix different types of mat together. To delimit them, you can place strips to distinguish them.
If you meet all the conditions, a Sommer team will collect your used mats and compact them for easier transport. They are sent either in bales or in bulk to a recycler.
Before processing begins, the mats pass through a metal detector to eliminate all traces of metallic waste. They then pass through a shredder which cuts them into small pieces, before being heated to 205°C to gradually melt the materials.
Once this stage is complete, the molten material passes through a filter to form spaghetti, which is then cut into small granules. These granules are then cooled in a cold water bath and dried in a centrifuge. In the final stage, the plastic granules are placed in bags and sent to companies for a second life.
